Taking care of your skin now is the best insurance of having healthy skin you can enjoy later. A solid proactive skin care plan is needed once you enter your mid-to-late twenties and on. There used to be a commercial on TV years ago that had a by line of -- “Pay me now or pay me later”. Well, the same is true when it come to proactive skin care.

There are some very simple proactive skin care steps you can initiate now to have healthier skin later. The sun is one of the nastiest culprits your skin will deal with in life. If you love being outside enjoying the sun you will want to make sure you use a good skin block to keep the harmful rays from destroying your skin.

If you are not taking enough vitamin C on a regular basis you should introduce it into your daily routine. Vitamin C is a very good proactive skin care treatment. Vitamin C is good for many aspects of your body, but it is especially effective for reducing spots on your skin. If you have spots on your skin you should also seek the advice of a doctor or dermatologist.

Be sure to cleanse your face regularly and then use a good toner to close the open pores on your skin. This is a very important proactive skin care step. Your face is exposed to many toxic conditions throughout the day, as well as, grease, and oil that accumulate on your skin and should be removed often.

If you can avoid smoke filled rooms it is much better for your skin and hair. If you are a smoker you may want to consider the damage that it does to your skin as well as other aspects of your health. Smoking is one of the deadliest habits one can develop to harm their skin. This is not only a proactive skin care tip it can be a life saving tip.

Natural Skin Care Products

Are Natural Skin Care Products the Answer to All Problems?

Are Natural Skin Care Products the Answer to All Problems?
By Ellen Biddle

When it comes to skin care products, you will find that a lot of people are very particular about using only natural skin care products. They treat all the synthetic products as harmful to the skin.

So, are natural skin care products the answer to all of our problems? What if a natural skin care product is not available for the treatment of a particular skin disorder? Are the synthetic skin care products so harmful that they should be banned?

Different people have different answers to these questions. However, the reality is that due to presence of synthetic preservatives, it’s really tough to find a natural skin care product that is 100% natural. There are natural skin care products that have natural preservatives, but their cost might be detrimental. Moreover, such natural skin products have a shorter shelf life and hence are not preferred by the manufacturers of natural skin care products.

Some people carry a wrong notion that since natural skin care products are natural, they cannot cause any harm to the skin. The suitability of a skin care product is not based on whether it is synthetic or natural. An unsuitable natural skin care product can harm you in almost the same way as a synthetic one. So, use natural skin care products, but be open to synthetic ones too (you might need them when a natural solution is not available)

Your selection of a natural skin care product should be based on 3 factors:

1. The skin type (dry, oily, normal, sensitive) of the person who will use that natural skin care product.

2. The climatic conditions in which it will be used e.g. hot and humid condition would warranty the use of oil-free natural skin care products.

3. The process for application/use of the natural skin care product. A good natural skin care product (in fact any product) can seem useless if not used in the proper way.

You can also make natural skin care products by yourself, by using the recipes that are readily available on the internet and in the books at book stores.

Use of organic fruits and vegetables is also popular as a natural skin care procedure. Some essential oils, herbal oils, are useful too and are known for their moisturising and antiseptic properties

However, using a natural skin care product does not mean that you can exercise carelessness with other aspects of skin care. Natural skin care products should be used like supplements to the following ‘essential’ recommendations: healthy eating habits (avoiding oily food), regular exercise, drinking a lot of water (8 glasses everyday), and cleanliness. This will then form a perfect and completely natural skin care routine that will help maintain a healthy beautiful skin for longer time.

How to Avoid Wrinkles – Taking Proper Care of Your Skin

How to Avoid Wrinkles – Taking Proper Care of Your Skin
By Paul Cris

As we age our skin starts getting wrinkles, fine lines etc. We need to take proper care of our skin to avoid wrinkles. As we age the skin starts losing the elasticity and the layer of the skin becomes very thin. Various other factors also make the skin worn out.

The first external factor, which degrades the skin, is sunlight. Excessive sunlight damages the free radicals. Cigarette smoking is another factor, which makes the skin lose its sheen and texture. Smoking reduces the blood flow in the skin, which is vital.

It is very important to moisturize the skin to lower the chances of wrinkles at a very young age. As we age we will definitely get wrinkles, the only thing we can do is slow down the process and minimize the damage. You need to take care of the skin before it is too late and take preventive steps like using lotions/creams etc, when you move out in sunlight. Smoking is injurious not only to a person’s lungs; it also affects the whole body including the skin.

There are many anti aging skin creams/lotions, which help the skin look young. Taking vegetables and fruits daily helps the skin. Whether you are in your teens or older, it does not matter, you need to take care of your skin everyday.

Facts on Selecting Skin Care Products

Facts on Selecting Skin Care Products
By Gail Leino

Skin Care Products are available for a range of skin types and purposes. The most common skin types are Normal, Oily, Dry and Combination. Normal skin has no signs of oily or dry areas and looks clear and healthy. Oily skin is shiny with no dry areas. Dry skin has some flaking with no oily areas. Combination skin has oily and dry areas.

When choosing a skin care product it's important to pick something that won't aggravate which ever type of skin you have. Skin Care Products are available to treat specific conditions or a combination of conditions. The most common skin care products are cleansers and moisturizers. There are also products with astringents to help tighten skin, Alpha-Hydroxy Acids to help skin slough old cells on the surface, Antioxidants to help new skin growth, and UV blockers to protect the skin from the Sun's damaging rays along with other types of skin care products. Many of these can be combined. You'll have most often seen UV blockers in moisturizers. It is one less step in your morning routine and you don't need to worry about forgetting that sunscreen.

Retinols are also popular for reduction of wrinkles by causing your skin to swell slightly and also for helping to fade age spots (not freckles). There are skin care products specifically for the eyes. It's a sensitive area with thinner skin. Products for the skin around the eyes treat puffiness, such as the bags under the eyes and wrinkles or crow's feet and those dark circles that can appear from fatigue. Simple home remedies to take care of your skin are, cucumber slices for puffy eyes, White Hazel to help tighten skin and pores, drinking lots of water and maybe taking a dietary supplement rich in vitamins A, C, and E.

Fundamentals of Skin Care

Skin Care 101

Skin Care 101
By Sheryl Armstrong

When choosing a skin care product for your skin, it is important to know your skin type. Skin type is fairly universal for all ethnic backgrounds with the only difference being pigmentation. Pigmentation is what gives skin its color.

When determining your skin type there are several factors to consider. Factor number one: do you have oily or dry skin? The second would be whether or not you have pigmented skin. The third factor is skin sensitivity and the fourth is the dreaded reality of aging: wrinkles.

First determine if you have oily or dry skin. Oily skin may have a shiny look and also may feel oily to the touch. Dry skin may feel uncomfortable and tight as well as feel rough and have a dull color.

Sebaceous (oil) glands produce a secretion that helps keep moisture in the skin. Excess oil production can result in oily skin but that is not the only factor. Diet, stress, hormones, medications, and genetics can affect oil production.

The role of Skin pigmentation in choosing skin care products has to do with the predisposition to develop undesirable spots on the skin. The types of spots that skin care products may be able to help fade are freckles and sun spots.

Skin sensitivity has to do with the skin's ability to resist irritation. Sensitive skin reacts easily to a stimulus with stinging, redness, or acne. Rosacea is in the sensitive skin category.

The last factor involved in choosing skin care is the presence of wrinkles. Sun exposure is a major factor in aging of the skin and wrinkles. Prevention is the best with the use of sunscreens in your skin care products.

Oily skin versus dry skin, pigmented versus non-pigmented, sensitive versus resistant, and aging skin are all factors involved choosing skin care products.
